Shannon's Hospital Stay...

Shannon suffered a major stroke on Friday July 15. She was recovering fairly well when the swelling in her brain became so high it caused a seizure. She was rushed into emergency surgery Tuesday morning in order to remove a portion of her skull to give the swelling a place to go.

She is now in ICU under heavy sedation and on a ventilator. They are monitoring her ICP (inner cranial pressure) to ensure it stays below 20. Shannon has been doing well with that the past couple of days!

The nurses say that they need the swelling to go down before they can lift the sedation. At that point, they will begin performing more tests to see how Shannon's brain is functioning and what type of injury she may have sustained from the stroke and/or seizure. We are all praying and know Shannon will come out of this a proven fighter!! You can check here for updates from the family.

  1. update: Shannon was transferred over to ICU from open heart recovery this morning... Everything is still the same as far as the icp and vitals as lastnight.. they did say they will be keeping up with the breathing tube even though she may not need it..
he breathing Tube is the only way they can make sure the airway stays clear since she cant cough or clear her throat until they lift her sedation.. which will not happen for a few more days!!!! she is breathing on her own though...:) My sister is a fighter.... I lover her sooooooo much keep fighting Shannon.... We are all behind you!!!

  7. OK Here we go!! If Shannon were in a coma there would be NO movement..she is moving her right arm and leg. and will pull her hand away if her finger is squeezed.she is sensitive to sound to...if talking in her room her arm would move more and heart rate goes up so sound bothers her still.
